Beauty Battle: Primer

Since moving to Houston I've been looking for the perfect primer. The heat and humidity (especially in the summer) take a toll on my face, and by the end of the day I'm left with little to none of the makeup I started with in the morning. Add my somewhat oily complexion and occasional breakouts to that and it's not a pretty picture.

I was looking for a primer to help smooth out my complexion, keep my makeup in place longer, and control some of the oil and shine. I tested out both of the products below and decided to write a "beauty battle" review to help y'all out in your own primer search.
Thoughts:
Both products are similar in size and price. They also have similar product descriptions, both are supposed to help minimize fine lines, refine pores, mattify, and help your makeup last longer. I've used CARGO products before and have loved them, but I was also really excited to try out the tarte primer because the brand uses natural ingredients to make its products.

The CARGO primer is a soft brown color with a lightweight feel while the tarte primer is a clear color with a much thicker consistency. I tested both products out after I had washed and moisturized my face, and I feel like the CARGO one went on a lot smoother. The tarte one was thick, cakey, and very hard to apply. After using the tarte primer my face felt oily, and heavy, not fresh and ready for makeup. I do think that both products helped reduce oil, but only CARGO helped my makeup really last all day.
I was really happy with the CARGO blu_ray mattifier. The consistency of the product is great, it goes on smoothly and leaves your skin feeling soft and fresh. It was easy to apply my makeup on top of, and it didn't leave my face looking cakey. I really feel like it helped my makeup last throughout the day, and significantly reduced oil and shine. It's my new go-to primer for sure, and I'd recommend it if you're looking for a new one.

That is a bummer that the natural one didn't work out. I am a clean eater for everything. I even use a natural soap and a sulfate free shampoo.

However, I haven't had luck with the natural makeup... haha and clearly the natural primer is the same way :( I still use my MAC makeup for almost everything and my good ol Maybelline Mascara .. love it!

I will have to check out this primer for those super oily Houston days.

I am going to have to try this primer. I have been looking for something to try but with so many different products it is so hard to choose one.

Thanks for the recommendation. :)

Have a good one.

I've actually never tried any Cargo products before. I'll have to check that out! I really like the make up for ever HD primer. I don't like one that feels too "silicone-y" because it makes me oily.

I've not heard of either of these brands, but it looks like Cargo is worth a try! It's always fun to check out a few products on the market to find the best one for you. Luckily it never gets humid enough here for me to need a face primer, but I always use MAC eyelid primer so that my eye makeup stays in place!

Just followed you on Twitter and Instagram, don't be alarmed, haha! I'm @dreejay for both.

I love both of these brands, although I haven't tried any of their primers. I use Palladio's face primer (at Sally Beauty Supply stores) and it goes on like a dream.

Love your makeup reviews, by the way!

Dropped in by way of Story of my life, and I'm so glad a did. I'm a new floridian and I can testify...oily skin and raging humidity are a miserable combo! I've never tried primer before...I'm going to have to give this a go!
