Toyota Texas Bass Classic

I've been in Conroe, TX all week preparing for the Toyota Texas Bass Classic (which officially starts tomorrow). It's a bass fishing tournament/concert/family event weekend presented by Toyota.

It's been a lot of fun, but we've also had some really long days, which has left me with little to no time to blog this week. I'm learning a lot about fishing (did you know that they're actually called "anglers" not "fishermen"?), and it's definitely brought the country girl out in me (I'm in love with this camo truck below!). I thought I'd share a little bit of what I've been up to with ya'll...
Tomorrow night Dierks Bentley is performing, Saturday we'll have Gary Allan, and Sunday Jake Owen will be here. I'm super pumped. I caught this beautiful sunset tonight, and I think it was the calm before the storm starts tomorrow!
I hope y'all have a great weekend! I'm leaving y'all with my favorite song right now (which seemed fitting), the acoustic version makes me melt!

We All Walk In Similar Shoes

As I was browsing through my blog feed today, I was thinking about why I love reading blogs so much. I've decided that it's because blogs are the closet thing to "reality" that you're going to get, way better than any reality TV I've ever seen. I feel like I can relate to so many of y'all and I love reading stories about your life, the great times, the challenges, and your inspiration for how to get through it all.

The best thing about my favorite blogs is getting to know the author behind the stories, I love finding things in common with all of y'all. I want to have that same transparency on my blog, and hope to be as relatable to as many of you as possible. I love when people leave comments saying "I know EXACTLY what you mean" because then I know I'm not the only girl out there feeling the same way.

I wanted to write a post to tell y'all a little more about me, especially since some of you are new. I figured the more we do this on our blogs the more we'll realize that we all walk in similar shoes, maybe a different color or size, but we're all traveling down similar paths none the less.

First and foremost, I'm not your typical Texas girl. I love it here, I was born and raised here, but I have a less than normal obsession with the "Carolina's"
I went to school in Charlotte, UNCC, and leaving Texas for college was the best decision I ever made. It forced me to grow up and become my own person.
My dad took me to a NASCAR race when I was 17 and after that day I knew I wanted to pursue a career in sports. I've realized I have way too much energy to be a "gray cube" girl, and have enjoyed working in sports and events ever since.
I was a Chi Omega in college and adopted "littles" like it was no one's business. I can't help it, I'm a people person.
The most pain I've ever felt, was when my high school sweetheart was a no-show at my older brothers wedding, never spoke to me after that day, and got engaged a year later. I still have no idea why (and he's married now).
I've been blessed with the three most amazing brothers in the world. This also has caused me to love shows like Jackass, crude humor, and college football.
I'm dating my best friend. We met in college, he liked me and I didn't like him, I liked him he didn't like me, I cried lots of tears over him, moved to another state, and we finally decided to give it a shot. I'm glad we're finally on the same page, because he makes me happy.
(During the "just friend" phase. We kissed this night, and I told him it was like kissing my brother, I can't believe he still speaks to me!)
The absolute coolest city I've ever been to is Buenos Aires, Argentina, but I'm dying to visit Chile one day.
So, tell me a little more about you!

Birthday Fail and Sunday Funday

Nina turned a year old today. I had every intention of celebrating her birthday in style, doggie cake, party hats, the whole deal. Unfortunately, procrastination and laziness got in the way, and all my poor puppy got was a picture of us together.
I'll make it up to her next year.

My company sponsors a bass fishing tournament every year and today was my last day at home before leaving for a week to work the event. We had a "Sunday Funday" at the St. Arnold Brewery - Texas' Oldest Craft Brewery, and supported an event put on by Generation Heroes.
We ate good BBQ, drank some delicious beer, and spent some quality time with the fam.
Everyone had a good time plus all the proceeds went to support families and children battling cancer. That's a win win in my book!

What Do You Believe In?

Erin's link-up idea is one of the best I've seen. Sharing what you believe is so empowering, and paints such a vivid picture of what defines you as a person, what things you hold dear to your heart. Because of this, I've decided to join in on the fun. I believe...
I believe in following your dreams wholeheartedly.
I believe that home isn't necessarily where you grew up.
I believe in dating your best friend.
I believe in southern hospitality, sweet tea, and front porches.
I believe that it's okay to cry.
I believe in best friends. In true, lasting, selfless friendship.
I believe that money will never make you happy.
I believe in allowing yourself to make mistakes.
I believe in the power of a beautiful sunset.
I believe that mason jars are the perfect glass to drink out of.
I believe that a manicure and pedicure will always make you feel better.
I believe in the love and support of my family.
I believe in accepting other's differences, and having an open mind.
I believe in sleeping in on the weekends, and that breakfast is the best meal, no matter the time of day.
I believe in love.
What do you believe in?

Houston Blogger Symposium

*Disclaimer* all the pictures below were taken by the amazing Paige Budde because well, I just didn't think that my iPhone pics would do the event justice.

I attended the first ever Houston Blogger Symposium last weekend and it was pretty impactful. After every blogger get-together I've been to, I've left still amazed at how unique this community really is. Where else can you go to an event by yourself, that's going to be attended by 50+ women, and not leave completely intimidated?? Bloggers make you feel like you've been lifelong friends.

I caught up with some of my favorite Houston bloggers, made some new friends, drank some bubbly, listened to successful women in the blogging world, and left the event with more passion for this hobby that I love.

The symposium was so well organized, by this gal right here...

The venue was a beautiful hotel in Houston's museum district, and the room was decorated with just the right amount of "girly" flair. We heard from a panel of seasoned bloggers, local Houston vendors and boutiques, and PR professionals, all of which left me with tips I could apply to my own writing, blogging, and networking.

It was such a great event, and I hope the "first annual" Houston Blogger Symposium turns into a yearly tradition.

Chase Your Dreams

Some inspiration for YOU today...
Did y'all know that there are only 168 hours in a week? Not only that, but most of us spend 40+ of those hours at our job. That's a lot of precious time taken up by work, so why spend it doing something you don't love?

YOU CAN chase those dreams, chase what makes you happy, and when you're passionate about these dreams, you WILL be successful.

So, find out what you love, what motivates you, and make it happen. YOU can do it and trust me, it'll be so worth it.

She Gets It...

...and here's where I get all sentimental on y'all.

My mama and I met up last night for wine and dessert, it's one of the things I'm going to try to take as much advantage of as I can while we live so close to each other. After our little date night of eating sweet treats and drinking wine out of glasses as big as our heads, I left amazed once again at what a cool mom I've been blessed with.
She told me not to post this pic, sorry mom!
My mom's been through a lot in her life, nothing earth-shattering but some things that should have been easy have been a little harder. Despite all this, she has the best attitude out of anyone I've ever met.

She understands what's important in life, and has tried to pass those same values on to me (even though sometimes I struggle). She's the rock that holds our family together, and is strong for everyone else when they need it. I try to be that same rock for her, not because I feel like I have to be, but because I want to be, because she's my she's my best friend and that's what best friends do.

She gets that it's all about the moments in life, about taking advantage of those times we have with one another, and not worrying about the petty things. I've never seen her stress about things like gossip, or "mean girls", an attitude that's rare among women.

She really just enjoys the moments, the time we have together, and loves her family.

Everyday I strive to have an attitude like hers, and I hope that she knows just how amazing I think she is. I really am her biggest fan.

Beauty Battle: Primer

Since moving to Houston I've been looking for the perfect primer. The heat and humidity (especially in the summer) take a toll on my face, and by the end of the day I'm left with little to none of the makeup I started with in the morning. Add my somewhat oily complexion and occasional breakouts to that and it's not a pretty picture.

I was looking for a primer to help smooth out my complexion, keep my makeup in place longer, and control some of the oil and shine. I tested out both of the products below and decided to write a "beauty battle" review to help y'all out in your own primer search.
Both products are similar in size and price. They also have similar product descriptions, both are supposed to help minimize fine lines, refine pores, mattify, and help your makeup last longer. I've used CARGO products before and have loved them, but I was also really excited to try out the tarte primer because the brand uses natural ingredients to make its products.

The CARGO primer is a soft brown color with a lightweight feel while the tarte primer is a clear color with a much thicker consistency. I tested both products out after I had washed and moisturized my face, and I feel like the CARGO one went on a lot smoother. The tarte one was thick, cakey, and very hard to apply. After using the tarte primer my face felt oily, and heavy, not fresh and ready for makeup. I do think that both products helped reduce oil, but only CARGO helped my makeup really last all day.
I was really happy with the CARGO blu_ray mattifier. The consistency of the product is great, it goes on smoothly and leaves your skin feeling soft and fresh. It was easy to apply my makeup on top of, and it didn't leave my face looking cakey. I really feel like it helped my makeup last throughout the day, and significantly reduced oil and shine. It's my new go-to primer for sure, and I'd recommend it if you're looking for a new one.

More Football and Family

It's what my weekend consisted of, and I'm totally fine with that. My oldest brother and sis-in-law had us over yesterday for football and food, where I did more eating than watching, but that's neither here nor there.
Of course, you can't have a good football watch party without the proper decor, so my other amazing sis-in-law made these cute tags. Find them at her Etsy shop "Tag You're It". She can customize them for any team you like, but c'mon, why would you want to root for anyone other than the Texans?
I have a case of the Monday blues, but I'm getting through it with a Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks! Feels like fall to me...

Also, tomorrow I'll be co-hosting a "Loving Lately" link-up with some awesome bloggers. So, get your lists ready and come back tomorrow to link-up!

Football Season Has Arrived

There aren't words to describe the atmosphere during a Texas A&M game at Kyle Field. It's one of those places that you just can't appreciate until you're there. The spirit and traditions are unlike any other, from the yell leaders, and corps of cadets, to the hymns and students standing the entire game. To me, it's what college football is all about.
I've been going to A&M games with my granddad since I was young, and am so glad that I can still continue that tradition today. We went to their season opener against the University of Florida yesterday and watched our Aggies play their first game in the SEC.
Even though we didn't get the win, it was such a great game. It's days like this that I'll cherish forever, and I love getting to make lasting memories like this with my granddad.

Let's Chat...

Hi loves, and Happy Friday!

I figured I'd throw a shameless "selfie" picture in there because honestly, I don't have much for y'all today.

Just a few thoughts for you to ponder over the weekend...

*What is wrong with girls lately?! - I swear I feel like every time I login to Facebook someone else has just gotten engaged.

This is great, only problem is, I feel like a lot of them are just settling because they feel pressure. You SHOULD NOT feel like you have to be married by a certain age, and shouldn't settle for someone who doesn't treat you right because of it.

If he's not "the one", be like T Swift and tell him "we're never ever ever, getting back together"

*What is wrong with all of us lately?! - It's sad but I feel like people are having a harder time "disconnecting" lately. There's nothing that bothers me more than going to dinner with someone and watching them text the whole time. I think it's something we could all be better about. Enjoying the company of those we're with, and not those on the other end of the phone.

*I've been blessed with the best Sister-in-laws in the world - I only have one single-brother left and his future wife has some serious competition. Here's an example of the awesome relationship I have with my SIL's --->

*Looking for some new bloggers to follow this weekend?! - check out some of my favorite gals lately...
-Alyx, Jessica, Carly, Whitney.
(They didn't pay me, I just love them that much, so you know know I'm being sincere. Check 'em out!)

I hope y'all enjoy your weekend!
I'm going to watch my Texas Aggies play in their first SEC game tomorrow!

p.s. Hey Em, if you're done with Jef, I'd be glad to take him! --->
