An Age Old Question (at my house at least)

Ok everyone, I've got a serious question, and need your thoughts.

This is something that my parents and I have argued about discussed, probably since I first started going on dates, way back in the day.
It came up again at dinner last night, so we thought it'd be a good idea to get y'alls opinion on the very serious matter.
Here it is...

When you go out to eat with your "significant other", do you sit across from each other, like this...
(this is a picture of my granddad and I, but you get the point)

Or do you sit next to each other, like this...
(so, this is a picture of my oldest brother and sister-in-law, and they actually make sitting next to each other look cute, but again, you get the point)
Did I mention he's an awesome photographer?

My parents and I have differing opinions on the matter.
I've always given them a hard time because I personally think it's so awkward to go out to eat, and sit on the same side of the booth/table together.
What are you supposed to look at the whole time?

What do you think? Same side, or opposite sides?
*********************************************************************************
Also, you know when you're reading through blogs and you stumble across a post that just makes you go "wow!"?
Well, that happened to me twice last night, with the following posts...

One is about our time, and how we're spending it, find it here.
and the other
is about relationships with the opposite sex, find it here.

I loved them so much I just had to share!

I think while dating, especially when its only the first few dates, sit across from each other! (Unless you eat at macaroni grill... they have the crayons and paper table cloth to draw on and you can play games sitting next to each other, ha ha!) Eric and I LOVE to sit next to each other... but I don't think we started doing that until we were seriously dating.

My husband and I will sit across from each other nine times out of 10. I just like to be able to look into his eyes! Plus, most places have pretty small booths and I feel like I can't be comfortable if I have someone else on my side! (I sit indian-style if it's a casual place!)

Um, I have the same thoughts as you - I am a firm believer of sitting across from each other so you can have someone to look at/talk to. Otherwise, you're craning your neck around looking at your significant other next to you.

I generally give hubs a "ummm, what are you doing?" look when he tries to sit next to me, haha :)

I sit across from my guy. It just too claustrophobic to sit next to him. Easier to talk to I think!

Interesting!
We always sit across from each other. I feel like you can talk a lot better and you have much more space. :) Maybe that's unromantic. :)

We do both... we sort of alternate back and forth!!

My hubby and I have always sat across from each other! That way, you can see each other without having to work for it. Haha...the only exemption is when we are at a sports bar or something and both want to see the tv. I mean, it's only fair for us both to watch tv!

across. I agree. what do you look at ... but I mean ... sometimes next to each other is nice when other people are around.

Lol my long time boyfriend and I are that annoying couple that sit next to each other. I can't really explain why we prefer it but we just do! We hold hands while we wait for our food and while he's telling me about his day, I like to just rest my hand on his knee so he knows I'm listening. It's not a good explanation but it's something we just do naturally! Haha

I think it is TOTALLY weird & awkward to sit on the same side of the table with your significant other. It makes me feel a little uncomfortable to see other people do it too!

We sit across! So much easier to communicate verses sitting next to each other unless we have another couple with us. I think couples that sit together on the same side looks awkward.

Found you via Whispering Sweet Nothings and I'm your newest follower :)

I would usually go with sitting across from the other person...the only exception being if for some reason you get sat at a huge round table (which is actually meant for parties of 5 or 6 but the waitress/er decided to waste the past on a couple...). Anyway, in that case sitting with maybe one chair in between you is the way to go.

I love when we can sit in a booth (preferably rounded) beside each other. Chairs: across unless you're in a group or with another couple. But whatever facilitates communication and bonding!

I agree! Sitting next to each other can be so awkward! I'm a big fan of sitting adjacent to each other (if at a table, not a booth obviously)!
