The Problem With Going Home...

...is that it's always tough to leave.
I had a great time in Texas for Thanksgiving and my trip was extra special because my grandma (Honey) was in town.

I've also realized that I have some big shoes to fill because my mom and honey (both in the picture above) are the most incredible women I know.
I loved spending time with my family, and today when I had to leave (just like every other time) I cried my eyes out.
I'm just happy to know that I'll be back in a few weeks for Christmas!

A Texas Thanksgiving

In Texas we're all about our football, so it only seems fitting that we spent our Thanksgiving in College Station for the Texas A&M/UT game.
This is my little brother and I headed to the game, isn't he handsome? Meg O, do you like my scarf??
It was a great night for football, and I'm so glad I was able to be at the game! A&M is headed to the SEC so it's the last time these two will play for a long time.
My poor Aggies lost but it was a fun Thanksgiving none the less.
We had our Thanksgiving dinner on Friday instead of Thursday and the whole family came to our house. My dad was put to work making a pinneapple turkey (my grandmas orders!) and this is the face he says I always make, the O.M.G. face. hahah
my awesome mama and I...
She made sure the house was decorated and the tree was up so I could enjoy it all before heading back to Florida.
We had DELICIOUS food and great conversation, discussing what each one of us was thankful for. My brother and sister-in-law brought over a game called QUELF that we all played after dinner. If you've never played I encourage y'all to buy it, it's awesomely awkward and really fun for family events.
At the end of the night I was exhausted like Maddie!

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! What exciting things did you do?

Latino Influence in NASCAR is Growing

...and I'm so glad that I'm getting to be an integral part in this growth.
This weekend was the 2011 NASCAR season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, and I was able to truly see the scope of the Latin influence in NASCAR.

Above is a picture of Brazilian driver Nelson Piquet Jr., Mexican driver German Quiroga, and Puerto Rican driver Bryan Ortiz. The car is the "Bienvenidos a NASCAR" car and it's the slogan we've been using to welcome latin americans into our sport.
We attended an event on Thursday night called "BeLive" which raised money for four different charities in Colombia. That's Ale and I with Colombian driver Juan Pablo Montoya. The event was attended by other influential Colombians such as Sofia Vergara and Fonseca, as well as other non-Colombian NASCAR industry folks.
This is a Colombian journalist, Diego Mejia, and he's done such an amazing job at increasing awareness of the sport to other latin americans. He's such a great guy!
I think what I'm most proud of however, it this ^

We pulled off something that's never been done before in the sport. We held a concert, completely in spanish, before the season finale race, SO COOL! This is Chino y Nacho (who by the way have 3 times more twitter followers than @NASCAR does) they watched the race from Juan Pablo Montoya's pit box.

There were struggles along the way, and numerous people tried to stop our Hispanic Marketing efforts, but in spite of them we pulled it off, and I couldn't be more proud!

On a side note...

Ale and I were headed back from Miami after our long weekend and she got a flat tire. Instead of completely breaking down, we decided to make the best of it.
While we waited for the new tire, we stumbled across this town called "Hollywood, FL" and found a park filled with food trucks! IT. WAS. AWESOME.
We had dinner from the greek food truck...
and of course, churros filled with dulce de leche for dessert!

My First Blog Swap, Sweet!

I participated in my first ever blog swap, it was hosted by Ashlee and Jessica, and it was so much fun!

My swap partner was Meg, over at O. is Me and she is absolutely awesome. It was crazy how much we had in common!
She totally spoiled me and sent a ton of nail goodies. I can't wait to use the Sally Hansen strips for a fun holiday party, and the Essie colors are "Mink Muffs" and "A List", both perfect for fall!
And here is the super cute scarf and card she got me (I wish my camera took better pictures) but the scarf is perfect, she totally got my style. And the card? SO ME!
Here's a closer picture of the print.

If you've never participated in a blog swap before I highly suggest it. It's such a fun way to get to know some other people and make a new friend.

Thanks Meg, I LOVE it all!

Race Weekend in Phoenix

I flew to Phoenix early Saturday morning for our Hispanic Market Test activation, and by early I mean 4:00am alarm, and Ale and I took a red-eye flight back last night and just got in this morning at 6:30am. I am one worn out girl!
This is Estefania "E", Ale, and I. These girls are soooo much fun and they've turned into some of my best girlfriends. It started out rainy at the track but cleared up by the start of the race.
As part of the Hispanic Market Test we had "Los Lobos" perform pre-race and my buddy, Bryan, introduced them.
And here is a pic of the group that has been pushing the Hispanic marketing initiatives forward in the sport. I feel so blessed to be a part of such a huge movement in NASCAR.

After the race we had to pack up and ship all of our stuff to Miami for the race this weekend. Usually there's a little UPS truck at the track that will do this for you, but we were too late and the truck had already left.
We spent two hours at a local UPS trying to get the stuff shipped and the girl who worked there, "LaChelle" mind you, had the WORST attitude ever. Ale looks thrilled with our big pile of shit haha! We got it mailed but OMG we needed a few beers after that.

I'm so excited because E's coming to stay with me for a few days before we all head to Miami for the last race of the season!

What did y'all do this weekend?

11.11.11

My twitter feed was filled today with tweets about the date, 11.11.11. and I saw comment after comment about people making wishes, especially at 11:11

In honor of this "lucky" day I wanted dedicate this post to wishes.

I imagine people were wishing for health, love, joy, prosperity. Maybe a new job, new house, new opportunities? Underneath it all though, I believe that people were wishing for happiness.

Below, in pictures, you'll find what my wishes looks like. The things that bring me bliss; perfect happiness.

Did you make a wish on this "lucky" day? And if so, what did your wish look like?

What I'm Loving Wednesday: Full Exposure Mascara

I'm linking up with Jamie today for What I'm Loving Wednesday!

These lashes are 100% real, and how do you get lashes this long you ask?!?! Well read on...

It's the Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara and you can buy it here. The mascara didn't dry out at all, it doesn't flake off midway through the day, and the brush coats all my lashes and makes them look super long. If you've been looking for a new mascara, look no further!
Today I had to share this amazing mascara with y'all because I'm definitely loving it! I went to Ulta a few weeks ago and they gave me a free sample; I've been hooked ever since.

What are you loving today???

Chino y Nacho coming to NASCAR

I have some REALLY exciting news to share with y'all. It may not be as exciting for you as it is for me, but I'm pumped, mainly because I've been working on this project since April.

As part of our NASCAR Hispanic Marketing initiatives, I was asked to research and secure talent for a pre-race concert in Miami. After a lot of emails, phone calls, conference calls, meetings, texts, and a few tears, I'm THRILLED to announce that Chino y Nacho will be performing at Homestead-Miami Speedway next weekend!
This is a HUGE deal, especially in terms of Hispanic marketing for the sport. No Hispanic talent, especially one this famous, has performed prior to a NASCAR race before, and I'm thrilled to say that my department is making this happen. Chino y Nacho are a Venezuelan duo and their latest album is topping the charts!

The concert will be pre-race on Sunday, on the Coca-Cola stage, and admission is free with the purchase of a race ticket. You can buy your tickets here. Please leave me a comment or send me an email if you want more information about the event!
Here is a little video of their latest single for you to enjoy!

I'm also excited to announce that my blog was added today to the Blogs by Latinas directory!

NASCAR visits Texas

I've missed blogging these past fews days! I was in Fort Worth, TX for the NASCAR race and am finally back home in Daytona.

I had a great group of students as part of the Diversity Mentorship Program this weekend, here they are below...
They were super funny, smart, and incredibly grateful for the opportunity.

I was also able to have my dad, sister-in-laws brother Wes, and uncle Steve join me at the track today. It was really cool to have them there...
I did get a little overwhelmed today though. I was managing the students, trying to show my family a great time, and Telemundo came to the track. Since there wasn't anyone else there from NASCAR that spoke Spanish, I had to play the role of PR as well.
Here's one of my friends, Pedro, being interviewed for the Telemundo program. It's so exciting to finally see Hispanic media at the track!

I decided on the flight home that I was going to spend this entire week on ME. I need some time to recharge my batteries and do some things to get my life back on track like go grocery shopping, do laundry, catch up on homework, and maybe even go get a mani/pedi :)

Also, I came home to PILES of mail. How does someone even get this much mail?!?
Two more weekends until the 2011 season is over, I can't wait!

How was all of y'alls weekend? What are your plans for the week?
